LENT-A TIME TO FACE GOD

Five Things To Do During Lent + David McMannes Do you love Lent? I do, but a lot of folk don't have all that much affection for the season. Many Christians have come to think of it in negative terms; however, Lent is not about hair shirts, solemn countenances and the like. Rather, it is a positive, strengthening, lovely spiritual experience, and if you want to grow in your love of God and your neighbor, then Lent is for you! Here are five things to do with single-mindedness this Lent which, if you do them, will give you a clearer vision of the Risen Christ, come Easter. FASTING & ABSTINENCE The biggest problem we moderns have with fasting and abstinence is one of confusion; that is, we don't really understand them. The priest gets up and talks about what they mean, and when he's done, people are more confused than they were when he started. So, here's a simplified elucidation of fasting and abstinence: Abstinence lowers the quality of food (usually by not eating m...

Father Mbaka Clarifies His Comments On Jonathan

REV FR. MBAKA ##Clarifies Comments## Following his widely publicised sermon on New Year’s Eve that tore President Goodluck Jonathan’s policies to pieces , Rev Father Ejike Mbaka has been recorded hitting the president hard again, and this time his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, was not spared. Speaking in both the English and Igbo languages, Mbaka dismissed suggestions that he is a two-faced individual because he received the first lady in his ministry a few weeks before his controversial outburst. Recall that in November 2014, Mbaka welcomed the First Lady, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and others to his Enugu parish. He told ‘Mama Peace’, as the Firstly Lady is popularly called, that her husband had “done well” and deserved another tenure at the Aso Rock. Mbaka, reacting to the criticisms, quoted a verse in the bible and gave a biblical instance where God supported one of his prophets and later withdrew the support because of the deeds of the prophet. He further revealed th...

Covenant University To Reduce Tuition Soon

Prof Charles Ayo, the vice-chancellor of Covenant University in Ota, Ogun state, has said that the school is likely to reduce its tuition fees in a bid to attract more students who will want to benefit from the quality education it offers. Addressing a news conference on Friday over the school’s recent Webometrics ranking as the first in Nigeria and West Africa and the 15th in Africa, he said even though there is no actual date for the likely review yet, the initiative would make admission into the school more affordable and competitive. He explained that apart from the fact that the chancellor of the school, Dr David Oyedepo, had already thought about it, the school management also had plans to increase its internally generated revenue so as to augment its income, which would make the review easier. He said:“Going by the thinking of the proprietor and chancellor, the commission is thinking of reducing the fees with a view to allowing more people to be able to benefit from the qualit...
